National Guard Airport Security Detail to receive weapons training
 
Salem - Major General Alexander H. Burgin and Governor John A. Kitzhaber met today to discuss the on-going mission of National Guard personnel supporting Oregon's airports. Gen. Burgin said, "I briefed the Governor on the progress of the FAA training as well as the additional weapons training we plan to conduct on Thursday. The governor maintained his resolve to support this mission and support each regional airport with Guardmembers who are properly trained in cooperation with the desires of the local airport authorities".

The Oregon National Guard will conclude the FAA required training on Thursday and then conduct Department of Public Safety, Standards, and Training (DPSST) approved class on the conduct of use of arms in a civilian environment. The press is invited to to observe this training at the Kliever armory, 10000 NE 33rd Dr. in Portland at 3:00 P.M. on Thursday, 4 October 2001. General Burgin will hold a news availability session.
