Army National Guard mobilizes 1042 Medical Company

Salem, OR - The Oregon National Guard is mobilizing 20-30 soldiers and three helicopters from the 1042nd Medical Company (Air Ambulance) in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. They will be tasked to perform their primary mission of medical evacuation and initial treatment. They will be activated in federal service mid-April. After the initial mobilization processing, they will travel to Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

The 1042 mobilized 59 personnel in support of Operation Joint Forge in Bosnia in 2000. They have also deployed to Turkey for an international exercise, "Dynamic Mix". The 1042 is the latest of many mobilization of the Oregon National Guard. Since 1995 the Oregon Army National Guard have mobilized more than 900 soldiers in support operation in the Balkans and the Middle East. Soon, that number will increase by more than 500 as the 1st Battalion, 186th Infantry Battalion deploys for a peacekeeping mission as part of MFO Sinai. Oregon ranks third nationally for overall numbers of soldiers deployed and these numbers may bring us into first.

The Oregon Air National Guard has in excess of 400 personnel mobilized under Operation Noble Eagle. In addition, the Air National Guard habitually deploys more than 500 personnel overseas annually for various training and operational missions. Oregon National Guard units are highly sought after due to Oregon's high quality leadership and emphasis on readiness.
