WWII Vet to receive long overdue medals and awards
Albany, Ore. –Levi Hubert of Albany, Oregon will receive medals and awards for service during WWII. Having never received any of his service awards nor his medals, Mr. Hubert will be honored after the Grand Parade on Monday, November 11, 2002 at the Linn County Courthouse steps.
Hubert was captured October 10, 1944 while assigned to the 30th Infantry serving in Achen German. He was marched to Luxembourg and held as a prisoner of war at Stalog 2B until May 6, 1945. During his incarceration, he was twice placed in front of a firing squad.
Mr. Hubert was never publicly acknowledged as a Prisoner of War and was only recently informed that his medals and awards would be ready for presentation on Veterans Day 2002.
Maj. Gen. Alexander H. Burgin, The Adjutant General, Oregon National Guard will make presentation of the following medals and awards approximately 20 minutes after the parade has passed the reviewing stand.
1. Bronze Star
2. Prisoner of War Medal
3. Combat Infantry Badge
4. American Campaign Medal
5. European African Middle Eastern Campaign medal with four bronze stars
6. Good Conduct Medal
7. World War II Honorable Lapel Pin
8. Marksman Badge with rifle bar
