Director, Office of Training and Development,
Charles N. DeVita

Charles N. DeVita, Director, Office of Training and Development, Charles DeVita was appointed director of the ICE Office of Training and Development in March 2007. As a former Assistant Director of the U.S. Secret Service, DeVita comes to ICE with over 30 years of experience in law enforcement, security planning, and leadership in government, the non-profit sector and the private sector.

Prior to joining ICE, DeVita worked as a security consultant for the Cleveland Browns Football Club (2005-2006) and as Director of Corporate Security for MBNA/America Bank in Wilmington, Del. (2002-05). At MBNA, DeVita was responsible for developing and leading the global financial services company’s security programs, and he oversaw the domestic and international staff in developing security plans and processes for company facilities and personnel worldwide. In this capacity, he was a strong proponent of both deploying innovative technology and building productive relationships with law enforcement and corporate partners to counter the security threats facing a multinational corporation with worldwide reach.

From 2000 to 2002, DeVita served as vice president for global safety and security with the American Red Cross in Washington D.C., where he was responsible for a wide range of security and emergency planning initiatives affecting more than 35,000 employees, 1.5 million volunteers and Red Cross delegations in over 40 countries. He oversaw the development and implementation of key security and emergency response plans, including the Red Cross Weapons of Mass Destruction and Terrorism Plan.

From 1975 to 2000, DeVita served with the U.S. Secret Service, where he served as Assistant Director from 1995-2000. Along with his multiple law enforcement assignments both domestic and overseas, DeVita also served as Assistant Special Agent in Charge for the Presidential Protective Detail and was responsible for the Secret Service Training Academy’s curriculum, training and education programs for all employees.

DeVita is a graduate of St. Francis College in New York (B.A., Psychology) and the John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York.
