Secretary of the Air Force to Visit Portland Fighter Base

The Secretary of the Air Force will visit the seat of air defense in the Pacific Northwest 7-8 May at the Portland Air National Guard Base. This is Secretary Michael W. Wynne's first official trip to Oregon, and the visit will familiarize him with the operations of the 142nd Fighter Wing and the Oregon Air National Guard.

In addition, Secretary Michael W. Wynne will help the 142nd FW kick off its celebration of the 60th Anniversary of the Air Force in a ceremony that honors communities that support it. The ceremony takes place May 8 at 12:30 p.m., and media are welcome to attend.

During the kick off celebration the 142nd FW will recognize the cities of Portland and Vancouver through the Cities of Honor program, and each city will have specialized nose art emblazoned on the 142nd FW's F-15s. Mayor Tom Potter of Portland and Mayor Royce Pollard of Vancouver will attend the ceremony to present proclamations of support and see the artwork unveiled.

Media that wish to attend should arrive at the Overend Gate, 6801 NE Cornfoot Road, no later than 12 p.m.
