Customize this media pitch letter, print it on your letterhead, and submit it to your local television media outlets to request that they include local National Wear Red Day activities in their news programming.

As part of February's American Heart Month activities, (insert organization name) is hosting (insert event/activity) on National Wear Red Day—Friday, February 1, 2008—to help raise awareness among local women that heart disease is their #1 health threat.  The event will (insert one or two lines with more details about your event/activity, if needed).

National Wear Red Day is a day when people nationwide will take women's health to heart by wearing red to show their support for women's heart disease awareness.  Here in (insert name of city), (insert organization name) will unite with thousands of Americans in the national movement to give women across the nation a personal an urgent wakeup call about their risk for heart disease by showing off a favorite red dress, shirt, tie, or Red Dress Pin. (Tailor details, as needed.)

Additionally, on National Wear Red Day (insert organization name) will be joining The Heart Truth—a national campaign sponsored by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute aimed at raising awareness about women and heart disease—to help spread the critical message that "Heart Disease Doesn't Care What You Wear—It's the #1 Killer of Women."  The Heart Truth launched the Red Dress as the national symbol for women and heart disease awareness in 2002 to deliver an urgent wakeup call to American women.

We urge you to include our local National Wear Red Day activities in your news programming.  We can help coordinate interviews with local female heart attack survivors and local experts on women and heart disease.  Please also encourage your anchors and journalists to wear red or a Red Dress Pin (available at www.hearttruth.gov) on February 1, 2008, to celebrate National Wear Red Day.
