Media Advisory: End of Tour Awards Ceremony and Change of Command Ceremony Postponed
 
The End of Tour Awards and Change of Command Ceremony for the members of the 2nd Battalion, 162nd infantry, Oregon Army National Guard who recently returned from a highly successful tour of duty in Iraq must be postponed. Originally scheduled for Sept. 11, 2005 at Gill Coliseum in Corvallis at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. for the change of command, must be postponed until a later date as these soldiers are participating in Hurricane Katrina Support Operations in New Orleans, Louisiana.
 
The soldiers from the 2nd Battalion, 162nd Infantry who distinguished themselves during their tour of duty in Iraq are currently assisting to secure the area, provide assistance to local law enforcement and providing service to the citizens of New Orleans who need assistance with evacuation from the flooded areas in the city.
 
These soldiers were very happy to return to duty together in support of their state mission to assist with support operations. While on duty in Iraq, these soldiers, many of whom volunteered for this duty came from more than 105 cities in Oregon and the surrounding states.
 
When they return from this duty, the cermonies will be rescheduled. Information on the new date and time will be provided after their return.
