Oregon Army National Guard assists search for missing diver

The Oregon Army National Guard launched a UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter from the Army Aviation Support Facility in Salem at about 12:30 p.m. today to assist in the search for a missing man near Sweet Home, Ore.

Sweet Home Police and Linn County Sheriff's officials are searching for 27 year-old man who was known to be diving in the Santiam River near the Foster Dam and has been missing since Tuesday evening.

Sweet Home Police is the lead agency for this search with assistance from Linn County Sheriff.

The Blackhawk crew consists of; Colonel David Greenwood, Chief Warrant Officer 1 Brian Williams, Sgt. 1st Class Kevin Hoggard, Sgt. Justin Thomas, and Spec. Jon Adams.

There are currently more than 700 soldiers on duty in Iraq and 100 in Afghanistan. An additional 35 soldiers are at Fort Sill, Okla. training for deployment to Afghanistan later this month.

Despite the high operations tempo of the Oregon National Guard, nearly 6,000 citizen-soldiers of the Oregon Army National Guard and 2,000 citizen-airmen of the Oregon Air National Guard remain in the state to respond to crises or emergencies.
