Citizen-soldiers Demobilize Today
After spending a year in Afghanistan, 15 citizen-soldiers from the 41st Brigade Combat Team are demobilizing today. The ceremony will take place at 1 p.m. at the Anderson Readiness Center on the northwest corner of State Street and Hawthorne in Salem, Ore.
The soldiers demobilizing today are:

Lt. Col. Michael Dunn of Hermiston, Ore.
Maj. Mike Derrickson of McMinnville, Ore.
Maj. Robert C. Fraser, Jr. of Salem, Ore.
Maj. Dean Perez of Astoria, Ore.
Maj. Lyle Simshaw of Gresham, Ore.
Capt. Gregory Fones of Lebanon, Ore.
Capt. Gary Repp of Medford, Ore.
1st Sgt. Don Weber of Tigard, Ore.
Sgt. 1st Class Scott Lucas of Portland, Ore.
Sgt. 1st Class Jack Martin of Keizer, Ore.
Staff Sgt. Johnithan Kindel of Banks, Ore.
Sgt. David Lewis of Portland, Ore.
Sgt. Anthony Johnson of Vancouver, Wash.
Private 1st Class Andy Johnston of Hermiston, Ore.
The soldiers were members of an embedded training team working with the Afghan National Army and serving as the eyes and ears of the 41st BCT as it prepares for a one year deployment to Afghanistan in the summer of 2006.
Demobilizing is the process under which they are taken off active duty and returned to their positions in the National Guard.
Hundreds of Oregon National Guard members remain on active duty in Afghanistan and Iraq in support of Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. Nearly 6,000 citizen soldiers and 2,000 citizen airmen remain on duty in Oregon ready to respond to any crisis or emergency that might arise in the state.
