Oregon Guard to host mobilization ceremony for the 1042nd Medical Company (Air Ambulance)
 
On Tuesday, July 19, 2005 at 10 a.m. at the Army Aviation Flight Facility, 1921 Turner Road SE, Salem, Ore. the Oregon Army National Guard will mobilize 35 members of the 1042nd Medical Company (Air Ambulance) based in Salem, Ore. They have received orders for a tour of duty in Afghanistan. Along with the 35 soldiers, four UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters will leave Salem, Ore. enroute to Ft. Sill, OK which is the mobilization station for this unit.
 
Six flight medics will depart shortly after the ceremony to report to Ft. Sam Houston, TX for special training. The balance of the unit will ferry the helicopters to Ft. Sill with the remainder taking commercial transportation.
 
The 1042nd members consist of pilots, co-pilots, crew chiefs, flight medics and flight maintenance personnel.
 
These soldiers hometowns are La Grande, Ore., Molalla, Keizer, Salem, Eugene, Lake Oswego, Newberg, Albany, Aloha, Turner, Bend, Portland, West Linn, Corvallis Silverton, Stayton, Vancouver, WA, Ridgefield, WA and Yacolt, WA
 
They are scheduled for specific in theater training at Ft. Sill prior to their forward movement to Afghanistan.
 
Several members of this group have previously served in the Afghan theater.
 
Family, friends and members of the media are encouraged to attend this special ceremony to support these men and women on this deployment.
