Army launches Blackhawk to Mt. Rainier for rescue of 47 year old male
One UH-60 Blackhawk from the Oregon Army National Guard was dispatched from the Army Aviation Support Facility in Salem, Ore. to Mt. Rainier,to effect the rescue of a 47 year old male with an injured leg. The man was reported to be at the 11,700 foot level on an ice ledge.
The flight medic was lowered on the hoist to stabilize the man and then place in the litter. He was then taken onboard the Blackhawk and was transported to Valley View Hospital in Seattle, Wash. for treatment.
The flight crew consisted of Chief Warrant Officer Greg Lund - pilot, Capt. David Strayer - copilot; Sgt. William Welborne - flight medic and Sgt. Larry Erickson, crewchief.
