Memorial Services for Staff Sgt. Kevin Davis announced

The family of Staff Sgt. Kevin Davis will hold a memorial service Apr. 21, 3 p.m. at First Assembly of God Church in Lebanon, Ore. Burial will take place after the memorial at the Independent Order of Odd Fellows/James Cemetery, 33297 Santiam Highway, Lebanon, Ore.

He will receive full military honors. The public and media are welcome to attend the services.

Davis, a member of the Oregon Army National Guard, died from injuries sustained when an improvised explosive device exploded near his vehicle on Apr. 8 in Hawijah, Iraq.

Davis was born on Dec. 3, 1963 in Nyssa, Ore. to Darrell and Nellie Davis. He is survived by his wife Robbin Ann Davis, son, Drew Deibele, daughters Laurynn Davis and Makenna Nicole Davis, parents Darrell and Nellie Davis, brother Brian Davis and sister Shelley Davis-Moore.

While deployed he was assigned to G Troop, 82nd Cavalry of Redmond, Ore. He was a member of the Oregon Army National Guard for 14 years, and he was assigned to F Troop before volunteering for duty in Iraq with G Troop.

Davis was a Reserve Officer with the Lebanon Police Department who planned to join the department full-time following his return from this deployment.

In conversations and email exchanges with his wife, he would always talk of the children in Iraq and how they touched his heart. He said the children's smiles helped him believe in the cause of their mission in Iraq, and he was extremely proud to be a part of the starting up of a new school in Iraq to help these children.

At home, according to his wife, Davis was an avid softball fan and enjoyed playing the sport with her. On the field, the two were well known for their skills as a superb short-stop and second base team. He also enjoyed fishing in his spare time.

Davis, according to his wife, was very strong in his walk with God and would spend extra time in Bible Study.

“Staff Sgt. Davis represents one of Oregon's finest citizens. We have not only lost a soldier, we have lost a future leader,” said Oregon Governor, Ted Kulongoski in press release. “On behalf of the citizens of Oregon, I extend my thoughts and prayers to his family during this difficult time.”
