King County Juvenile Detention

Juvenile Division

The King County Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention - Juvenile Division is responsible for the care and custody of youth who are detained in the Juvenile Detention Facility. Youth are detained for a number of reasons including alleged new offenses, outstanding warrants, or to serve a sentence. For a complete list of detention admission criteria, click here.

There is also a library on site that is maintained and staff through contracts with the King County Library System. Youth are scheduled in the library on a regular basis. Youth also have the option of participating in other regularly scheduled programs such as weekly church services provided through World Vision's Vision Youth Program, AA and NA meetings, Powerful Voices, and other special programs.

Juvenile Detention also operates King County's Alternatives to Secure (ASD) programs. ASD programs are developed with the understanding that alternatives to secure detention ensure a youth's appearance at subsequent court hearings and minimizes the likelihood of new offenses while the youth is in the community. ASD programs balance the youth's level of risk to self and public safety with the least restrictive alternative for placement while the youth is involved with the Juvenile Court. King County's ASD program is comprised of Electronic Monitoring, Day and Evening Reporting, Group Care and Work Crew.
