The South Dakota legislature meets annually from early January to mid-March. During the session, the governor must sign or veto legislation within five days after transmittal (except weekends and holidays) or it becomes law without signature. Legislation transmitted less than five days before the session adjournment must be acted upon by the governor within 15 days of adjournment (except weekends and holidays) or it becomes law without signature.
