Effective January 2002 Application Red Book is migrating to Version 1.6. Changes since the September 25th notice are highlighted in red.

• Changed version to V1.6 and the build date to 2002-01-01.
• Changed the DTD public identifier to "-//USPTO//DTD PAP V1.6 2002-01-01//EN".
• Added highlight to the paragraph-federal-research-statement element.
• Element highlight was expanded to include elements uline (underline) and duline (double underline).
• Change element dependent-claim-reference content model from claim-text to PCDATA.
• Deleted elements usc371-date, usc102e-date, and the proposed usc371c124-date. This information is no longer captured within application red book.
• Entity references have been consolidated into a single entity declaration. File pap-v16-2002-01-01.ent must be local (in the same directory) to this DTD and contain the DTD's list of entity references.
• Sequence listing element s-2-ix-d contains descriptive text and was modified to (#PCDATA | highlight)*.
• Changed element name-2 from required to optional.
• Added optional state to element residence-non-us, from (city,country-code) to (city,state?,country-code). This change is reserved for future use. Release V1.6 xml data will not include this change.
• Modified the following elements to include an alt attribute for compliance to section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act Amendments of 1998. The xml data will include the alt attribute specifying the default value.

chemistry-mol-file with default value "chemistry mol file"
custom-character with default value "custom character"
image with default value "embedded image"
mathematica-file with default value "mathematica file"
• Modified sequence listing element s-2-vi-a (organism) to be optional.
• Renamed element continued-prosecution-application-flag to continued-prosecution-application and modified the content model to be PCDATA. The renamed element is to contain the full text of the CPA notice (added as comment within this DTD).
• Added optional attribute lang to element document-id. This change is reserved for future use. Release V1.6 xml data will not include this change.
• Element usc102e-date is to either contain "none" or a date. It was already required. (This is not a DTD change, just content clarification.)
• Modified the frequency of element international-conventions from optional to zero or more.
• Removed the optional image element from table-cwu.
• Removed the optional image element from sequence-cwu.
• Changed the attribute sequence of elements image and custom-character to conform to the sequence used by the other file link elements.
