Atlanta, GA – At approximately
7:15 p.m., on March 11, 2008, investigators from the U.S. Marshals
Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested Brian Shane Powers,
32. During the arrest a USMS investigator in fear for his life fired
at Powers as he attempted to injure the investigator with a motor
vehicle.
Powers attempted to flee using the motor vehicle and struck three
vehicles during that flight before he was stopped and arrested as he
exited the vehicle to continue his flight on foot.
Powers was wanted by the Atlanta Police Department for Robbery by
Force, Fleeing and Attempting to Elude and Escape. Additionally,
Powers was wanted for violation of his Georgia State Parole.
The USMS Inspector was treated and released from Kennestone
Hospital.
The U.S. Marshal’s Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force (SERFTF)
is a team comprised of law enforcement officers from the United
States Marshal, as well as, 27 other local, state and federal
agencies. The task force’s objective is to seek out and arrest the
regions most violent offenders. Since the inception of the task
force in September of 2003, the SERFTF has closed over 11,300 felony
warrants. Annually, more fugitives are arrested by U.S. Marshals
than all other federal agencies combined.
