Valley Manhunt Ends in Capture of
Career Criminal |
Phoenix, AZ – Late last night Deputy U.S. Marshals, Special Agents
from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives,
Officers from the Arizona Department of Public Safety S.W.A.T. Team
and the Phoenix Police Department captured career criminal and
documented gang member Sheldon Hanshaw, 33, in the area of 7th St.
and McDowell Rd in Phoenix.
Officers began hunting for Hanshaw last Friday after members of the
U.S. Marshals Phoenix HIDTA Task Force attempted to arrest Hanshaw
in the area of 17th Ave and Tuckey Rd in Phoenix. During the arrest
attempt Hanshaw began ramming law enforcement vehicles with his
vehicle. Hanshaw was eventually able to free his vehicle and began
to flee law enforcement. Hanshaw subsequently flipped his vehicle
after striking yet another law enforcement vehicle and was able to
evade capture on foot. While running from Officers, Hanshaw dropped
a loaded .40 caliber handgun.
Hanshaw was wanted by the Arizona Department of Corrections for
violating the conditions of his parole. Additionally, Hanshaw was
wanted by the Maricopa County Sheriffs Office for various crimes
involving the sale of dangerous drugs. As a result of Hanshaw’s
actions on Friday he will also be facing Federal charges of Felon in
Possession of a Firearm and Aggravated Assault on a Federal Law
Enforcement Officer.
Last night Officers located Hanshaw in a residence near 7th St. and
McDowell Rd. As Officers began to surround the residence, Hanshaw
jumped from a 2nd floor window of the residence and again tried to
evade Officers. Hanshaw scaled numerous walls but was captured after
Officers sealed off his only escape route.
United States Marshal David Gonzales praised the work of Deputies
and law enforcement officers adding, “The level of interagency
cooperation exhibited during this operation was second to none, this
resulted in the capture of a violent felon and made the Valley a
safer place.”
