Phoenix, AZ –The
United States Marshals Fugitive Task Force, Glendale Police Fugitive
Task Force and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives
captured Texas homicide suspect Ronald Thompson in West Phoenix
Wednesday night, ending a nine day manhunt.
Police were able to
track Thompson to the 6700 block of W. Clarendon. He was seen
getting into a vehicle with his brother when authorities initiated a
felony traffic stop. Thompson surrendered peacefully to police.
El Paso Police
believe Thompson was involved in the brutal murder of an El Paso
woman on July 31. Thompson had been traveling through El Paso when
his car broke down. He befriended the victim and then killed her.
He stole her car and various belongings and fled to Phoenix. While
in Phoenix, he threatened to kill one of the foster parents of his
girlfriend’s child. Thompson has an extensive violent criminal
history and is well known to local police as being a pimp.
The USMS Fugitive
Task Force involves law enforcement officials from the Department of
Public Safety (DPS), Maricopa County Adult Probation, Phoenix Police
Department, Mesa Police Department, ATF, Chandler Police Department,
Scottsdale Police Department and U.S. Postal Inspectors.
“The cooperation of
federal and local law enforcement agencies between Arizona and Texas
led to the swift arrest of a dangerous criminal. This case was made
one of our highest priorities because of the violent nature of the
crime alleged to be committed by this fugitive” says Marshal David
Gonzales.
