SAN DIEGO – Following a four-year tradition
of success in its national efforts, the U.S. Marshals Service locally
conducted another successful Operation FALCON (Federal and Local Cops
Organized Nationally) from June 2 to June 6. Led by the U.S. Marshal Service
San Diego Fugitive Task Force, Operation FALCON targets persons wanted on
felony charges including sexual predators, unregistered sex offenders,
violent crimes, narcotics violations, and other felonies.
Operation FALCON 2008–San Diego combined the collective efforts of multiple
law enforcement agencies in one of the area’s largest-ever fugitive
initiatives. Over the course of the five-day operation, Deputy U.S.
Marshals, teamed with federal, state, and local law enforcement partners and
arrested 160 felony fugitives – including 22 for robbery offenses – and
cleared 276 felony warrants. Nine firearms were also seized and taken off
the streets.
Charles Edward Brown was a fugitive wanted by the San Diego Fugitive Task
Force on charges of armed carjacking and assault with a deadly weapon. Brown
allegedly stabbed the victim with a knife and stole his vehicle. San Diego
Fugitive Task Force members arrested Brown at his residence and turned him
over to detectives who are seeking charges on additional robberies.
“I commend this joint operation between our law enforcement agencies.
Anytime wanted persons are taken off the street can only make our community
safer.” said Chief Deputy U.S. Marshal Mark Owen of the Southern District of
California. Operation FALCON continues to prove that federal, state and
local law enforcement can work well as a team, achieving remarkable
successes in bringing some of the worse criminal offenders to justice.
Twenty seven law enforcement agencies participated in Operation Falcon 2008.
The joint operation consisted of 150 federal, state, and local law
enforcement officers, making up 22 separate arrest teams working throughout
the five-day period. Operation Falcon continues to be the largest and most
successful fugitive apprehension effort in U.S. Marshal history.
