KIDNAPPING SUSPECT ARRESTED IN MEXICO
AUSTIN
– Carlos Aguilera, 23, of Arizona was arrested last night at
approximately 10:10 pm by the Policia Ministerial de Tamaulipas,
Child Abduction Response Team in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico. Working
closely with their Mexican Law enforcement partners, the Lone Star
Fugitive Task Force and the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force
out of Laredo developed information throughout the evening that
Aguilera had fled from Austin to the Mexican border town of Nuevo
Laredo with a 23-month old girl who was kidnapped Sunday evening in
Austin. Aguilera was charged on Monday with Felony Aggravated
Kidnapping.
Local investigation by the Austin
Police Department and the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force determined
that Aguilera fled to the Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico area.
Information relayed to the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force,
a coalition of federal, state and local law enforcement officers in
Laredo, Texas in turn advised the local ministerial police of
Aguilera’s presence in Nuevo Laredo and they subsequently initiated
surveillance at a local motel where they were able to locate,
identify and detain Aguilera.
Mexican authorities determined
Aguilera had no legal status to remain in Mexico and was expelled
from the Republic of Mexico and transferred to the International
Port of Entry in Laredo. Aguilera was remanded to the custody of
Webb County authorities pending extradition to Travis County.
Members of the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force in Austin are the
Austin Police Department – Intelligence Unit, Travis County
Sheriff’s Department, Williamson County Sheriff’s Department, Texas
Rangers, and the U.S. Marshals Service.
