Lone Star Fugitive Task Force LogoAUSTIN – Carlos Aguilera, 23, of Arizona was arrested last night at approximately 10:10 pm by the Policia Ministerial de Tamaulipas, Child Abduction Response Team in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico. Working closely with their Mexican Law enforcement partners, the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force and the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force out of Laredo developed information throughout the evening that Aguilera had fled from Austin to the Mexican border town of Nuevo Laredo with a 23-month old girl who was kidnapped Sunday evening in Austin. Aguilera was charged on Monday with Felony Aggravated Kidnapping.

Local investigation by the Austin Police Department and the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force determined that Aguilera fled to the Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico area. Information relayed to the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force, a coalition of federal, state and local law enforcement officers in Laredo, Texas in turn advised the local ministerial police of Aguilera’s presence in Nuevo Laredo and they subsequently initiated surveillance at a local motel where they were able to locate, identify and detain Aguilera.

Mexican authorities determined Aguilera had no legal status to remain in Mexico and was expelled from the Republic of Mexico and transferred to the International Port of Entry in Laredo. Aguilera was remanded to the custody of Webb County authorities pending extradition to Travis County.
