CHILD SEXUAL ASSAULT SUSPECT ARRESTED IN CHICAGO

Lone Star Fugitive Task Force LogoAUSTINJuan Carlos Zambrano, 44 of Austin was arrested this morning in Chicago by the United States Marshals Service, Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force. Zambrano has been a fugitive since being charged in March of 2007 by Travis County for 2 counts of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child, a 1st degree felony.

The Lone Star Fugitive Task Force, led by the United Sates Marshals Service in the Western District of Texas, working with the Austin Police Department, Child Abuse Unit determined that Zambrano had fled to the Chicago, Illinois area in an attempt to evade local arrest. The information of Zambrano’s possible whereabouts was relayed to the Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force, a coalition of federal, state and local law enforcement officers led by the United States Marshals Service, confirmed Zambrano’s was in the area. Task Force Officers arrested Zombrano at his residence in Chicago. Officers discovered further evidence of Zambrano’s continuing activity in child pornography. Additional charges may be pending in the Chicago area.

Zambrano will remain in the custody of Cook County Jail, in Chicago pending his extradition to Austin.

LaFayette Collins, United States Marshal for the Western District of Texas said, “This case is a prime example of why we are dedicated to the apprehension of sexual predators. The Lone Star Fugitive Task Force will not stop pursuing a fugitive until justice has been served.”

Members of the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force in Austin are the Austin Police Department – Intelligence Unit, Travis County Sheriff’s Department, Williamson County Sheriff’s Department, Texas Rangers, and the U.S. Marshals Service.
