THE LONE STAR FUGITIVE TASK FORCE ANNOUNCES THE ARREST OF
TIMOTHY WILLIAMS

Lone Star Fugitive Task Force LogoWaco, TX - On January 26, 2007, members of the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force, led by the United States Marshals Service in the Western District of Texas, received a request for immediate assistance from the McLennan County Sheriff’s Office to assist them in locating kidnapper Timothy Williams.

Shortly before the request was received, Williams, at gunpoint, abducted his former girlfriend, Sherry Salter, from her place of employment. Thus began a four hour manhunt throughout central Texas utilizing many Lone Star Fugitive Task Force resources. Through the use of good old fashion police work, Task Force members were able to continually provide approximate locations for both the fugitive and victim as Williams was constantly on the move.

At approximately 1:30 PM, it was determined Williams and the victim were on U.S. Interstate 35 approximately 60 miles North of Waco, TX. All local and state law enforcement agencies were notified. Within minutes, the vehicle Williams was driving was spotted and a vehicle pursuit began. Williams was able to evade a vehicle pursuit countermeasure, but was forced off the road and into the median of the Interstate. There, Salter literally jumped from the vehicle and was rescued. Williams then stopped the vehicle and attempted suicide. He was transported to a local hospital where he subsequently passed due to the self-inflected gunshot wound.

United States Marshal for the Western District of Texas LaFayette Collins said, “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of both the victim and abductor. This is a tragic situation which for all involved. We are grateful that all law enforcement personnel were able to work together to bring this tragedy to an end.”
