Dallas, TX - On July 21, 2006
Dallas Police patrol officers arrested Omar Haki Smith for
Manufacture & Delivery of Cocaine and Unlawful Possession of Firearm
by a Felon. Smith was handcuffed and seated on the ground when he
successfully fled on foot and escaped from custody.
The Dallas/Ft. Worth Fugitive
Apprehension Strike Team (DFW FAST) determined that Smith had fled
Texas and traveled to Oklahoma and Kansas to elude capture. On
February 12, 2007 DFW FAST Deputy Marshals and Strike Team Officers
from the Dallas Police Department developed information that Smith
was in the Oak Cliff of Dallas, Texas. DFW FAST located Smith’s
vehicle in a parking lot at 3500 W. Camp Wisdom with two unknown
subjects sitting in the vehicle. Task force members established
surveillance and determined that Smith was one of the unknown
subjects sitting in the vehicle. As DFW FAST approached the vehicle
to execute the arrest, Smith exited the vehicle and attempted to
flee on foot. Smith was arrested after a brief foot chase by DFW
FAST. At the time of his arrest, Smith was in possession of 24.5
grams of Ecstasy (88 tablets).
Additional charges were filed by
Dallas Police Strike Team Officers. Additional weapons charges are
pending from the July 21, 2006 escape in which a weapon was
recovered. Smith is a confirmed member of the 45 Kings which is
affiliated with the Bloods Street Gang. Criminal history for Smith
includes previous arrests for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly
Weapon, Assault Public Servant, Possession of Cocaine with Intent to
Deliver, Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle.
The arrest of Smith cleared four
felony fugitive warrants (Escape, Manufacture/Delivery Cocaine,
Manufacture/Delivery Ecstasy, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a
Felon). |
