Child Rapist is U.S. Marshals’ Mid-South Fugitive Task Force 500th Arrest

On Wednesday, January 17, 2007, the West Tennessee United States Marshals Service Mid-South Fugitive Task Force and the Middle North Carolina Fugitive Task Force captured fugitive Corey Scott in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Scott was charged in Shelby County Criminal Court on February 24, 2006 with Rape of a Child. Scott was arrested without incident and is currently in the Forsythe County Detention Center awaiting extradition to Memphis, TN.

During the summer of 2005, a young female told police that she had been sexually assaulted by Scott on several occasions. Scott, age 37, left the Memphis area during the course of the investigation by the Memphis Police Department Sex Crimes Unit. His whereabouts has been unknown since that time.

The Mid-South Fugitive Task Force began looking for Scott in the fall of 2006. In January, 2007, Mid-South Fugitive Task Force Deputy Mike Pryor and Deputy U.S. Marshal Frank Conroy, based out of the U.S. Marshals’ Office in Memphis, TN developed leads on Scott that led them to Winston-Salem, NC.

Scott’s arrest marks the 500th arrest for the Mid-South Fugitive Task Force. The Mid-South Fugitive Task Force is a multi-law enforcement agency task force comprised of Deputy United States Marshals, Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputies, and Memphis Police Officers. The Mid-South Fugitive Task Force began in August, 2005 and focuses on locating and apprehending fugitives that are wanted for violent crimes and sex offenses. The task force also regularly assists other law enforcement agencies throughout West Tennessee.

“This case proves the strong need for such a fugitive task force. It proves the need for law enforcement agencies to team together to remove sexual predators and violent offenders from the streets. It also proves you can run, but you can’t hide. The Marshals Service has a long arm and can reach out and touch fugitives like Scott even if they do travel to other states, or even other countries, to hide,” David G. Jolley, U.S. Marshal for the Western District of Tennessee was quoted as saying.
