Chatham Savannah Counter Narcotics Team Fugitive Captured

A fugitive wanted by the Savannah Chatham Counter Narcotics Teams on outstanding charges for Possession of Marijuana more than an Ounce, Possession and use of drug related objects, Possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and Possession of Marijuana with intent to distribute has been arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force in Bloomingdale, Georgia.

Joseph Charles Rodgers, 22, was being sought on the above warrants by the Counter Narcotics Team, for an incident that happen on October 16, 2007 at 201 Quacco Road #53 in Savannah, Georgia. Rodgers is accused of Possession Marijuana with intent to distribute, after the Counter Narcotics Team executed a search warrant at the above address. Rodgers has been on the run since that time and the case was referred to the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force to find and arrest him.

The Marshals Fugitive Task Force generated leads that led task force officers to #5 Garvin Street in Bloomingdale, Georgia. Officers knocked and announced at the residence and Rodgers tried to exit the residence out the back door to avoid capture. Task force officers were at the back door and arrested him without further incident. Rodgers was then turned over to members of the Counter Narcotics Team for transport to the Chatham County Jail.

Annually, investigations carried out by the U.S. Marshals result in the apprehension of approximately 34,000 federal fugitives. More federal fugitives are arrested by the Marshals Service than all other federal agencies combined.

The Savannah Office of the Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force is a team comprised of law enforcement officers from the Georgia Department of Corrections, the Chatham County Sheriff's Department, the Savannah Chatham Metropolitan Police Department, and the United States Marshals Service. The task force objective is to seek out and arrest fugitives charged with violent crimes, drug crimes, sex offenders, and other felonies. Last year, U.S. marshals task forces arrested more than 27,000 state and local fugitives on felony charges.
