Atlanta Police Officers and U.S. Marshals Task Force Investigators Capture
Person of Interest in Shooting of 9 Year Old Girl

Atlanta, GA - On July 27, 2007, investigators from the U.S. Marshals Service’s Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force (SERFTF) arrested Jason Ardis, 27. Ardis was wanted in New Orleans, LA for Failure to Appear on an Aggravated Battery Charge and is a person of interest in the Atlanta Police Investigation of the drive by shooting death of a 9 year old girl in Southwest Atlanta committed on July 25, 2007.

Over the course of the last two days investigators from the Atlanta Police Department and the USMS SERFTF have followed numerous leads in the Ardis case finally leading them to a home on Central Villa Dr. in Atlanta, GA this afternoon. At the home, investigators located a black Monte Carlo that matched the description of the vehicle used in the drive by shooting.

In the joint APD, USMS SERFTF operation investigators approached and surrounded the home. Once the home was surrounded they were forced to make entry into the home where they were able to safely affect the arrest of Ardis without incident. A subsequent search of the residence turned up weapons and a set of body armor. The subject will be held in the Fulton County Jail pending his initial appearance.

The Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force (SERFTF) is a team comprised of law enforcement officers from the United States Marshal, as well as, more than two dozen other local, state and federal agencies. The task force’s objective is to seek out and arrest the regions most violent offenders. Since the inception of the task force in September of 2003, the SERFTF has closed over 10,300 felony warrants. Annually, more fugitives are arrested by U.S. Marshals than all other federal agencies combined.
