Arrest of Alex Gentieu

The United States Marshals Task Force has arrested a man wanted for a shooting last month. Alex Gentieu was wanted for shooting two people on March 12 at the Lexington Green Apartments in Newark.

On Thursday, April 19, task force members received information Gentieu was at the Days Inn motel in Elkton, Maryland. At approximately 4 p.m., deputy marshals with assistance from the Cecil County, Maryland Sheriffs Office attempted to open the door where the defendant was staying. The defendant barricaded the door with a mattress. Officers were eventually able to enter the motel room and arrest Alex Gentieu.

The original investigation revealed a male victim and his cousin were standing outside of the Hancock Building of Lexington Green Apartments near Newark, DE, when he observed a group of males standing on the third floor balcony. One of the subjects then withdrew a gun and fired several rounds at the victim and his cousin who immediately fled on foot. The female victim had just arrived at the complex to visit her sister when she was shot. She then sought refuge in her car and called for help.

Further investigation by New Castle County Police revealed the two suspects were Alex Gentieu and Julius Williams were responsible for the shooting. Williams was arrested earlier this month.

The defendant is being held in Cecil County, Maryland pending extradition to Delaware.
