Announcement Regarding the Trademark Daily XML File Product

In response to comments received from our information dissemination customers, the USPTO today announces the following concerning the Trademark Daily XML File product:

  1. The USPTO is committed to disseminating Patent and Trademark information of the highest quality.  This commitment covers not only the information appearing on the uspto.gov web site, but also the data products that we sell to our customers.  To ensure that level of quality for the new Trademark Daily XML File, we will continue to disseminate the Trademark Weekly Text File (TWTF) until we are confident that the Daily XML product meets our quality standards.  The previously announced TWTF discontinuation date of June 30, 2003 is hereby cancelled.

  1. Whenever possible, the USPTO strives to provide customers with an adequate change notification period regarding the introduction of new, or changes to existing, information dissemination products or services.  However, given the ongoing system developments pertaining to the introduction of the Madrid Protocol in November 2003, the USPTO may not be able to provide such notification for the new Trademark Daily XML file.

  1. The USPTO will continue to disseminate pre-production versions of the Daily XML file to facilitate testing and feedback from our customers. These pre-production versions of the Daily XML File will continue to include actual production data.

  1. The USPTO will immediately enhance communications with customers concerning the status and progress towards preparing the Daily XML file product for production.  These enhancements will include:

·         A central point for customer submission of inquiries and feedback, both technical and general, concerning the Daily XML pre-production product.

·         A weekly status update on the uspto.gov web site, including posting of responses to customer inquiries regarding the Daily XML product and a summary of any changes made to the product or related documentation.

·         A frequent update on the uspto.gov web site concerning overall milestones and any changes to plans with respect to the Daily XML file product.

Customers should check the uspto.gov web site next week for more details on these communication enhancements.

  1. A similar communications enhancement program will be established for other information dissemination products.  More details concerning those enhancements will be released later.

  1. The USPTO will also provide frequent information to customers concerning updates to Trademark data products based on the transition to the Madrid Protocol environment in November 2003.
