Lease Sale Updates:

Chukchi Sea Sale 193:Chukchi Sea Lease Sale 193 was held on February 6, 2008. The Sale was record breaking with 667 bids on 488 blocks and bringing in $2.6 billion in high bids. This was the 3rd lease sale the MMS has held in the Chukchi Sea.

Exploration and Development Projects:

Cosmopolitan Project: The Cosmopolitan Unit/Hansen Exploration Project is located in the Cook Inlet and consists of 2 federal leases and 8 State of Alaska leases totaling 23,516 acres. A supplement to the Exploration Plan was submitted for a new exploration project. An Environmental Assessment and Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) were issued. Activity for the project is scheduled to begin in June and continue through November 2007.

Liberty Development Project: The Liberty Project consists of 2 leases located on the outer continental shelf of the Alaskan Beaufort Sea. British Petroleum plans to develop the prospect from the Endicott Satellite Drilling Island using ultra-extended-reach drilling technology. If done, Liberty could be developed with a smaller footprint.
