Todd Syverson is Assessed a Civil Penalty in the Amount of $25,000

WASHINGTON, April 7, 2008 - On March 18, 2008, Grain Inspection, Packers and Stockyards Administration (GIPSA) entered into a consent decision with Todd Syverson and Marilyn Syverson doing business as Syverson Livestock Brokers, Syverson Cattle Co. and Triple S Ranch Cattle Company, Wanamingo, Minnesota.

Todd Syverson has been ordered to cease and desist from fraudulently altering livestock sales invoices or any other documents in connection with a livestock transaction including misrepresenting or concealing actual livestock weight, purchase price, or other livestock character or quality, or falsely representing a market agency transaction as a dealer purchase or sale.

He has also been assessed a civil penalty in the amount of $25,000.

Marilyn Syverson has been ordered to cease and desist from engaging in business in any capacity for which registration and bonding is required under the P&S Act without registering with the Secretary of Agriculture.

The consent decision resolves charges that were filed on January 31, 2008, in which GIPSA alleged that Todd and Marilyn Syverson:

  • Did not keep records that fully disclosed all transactions involved in their business; and
  • Falsified invoices and were unable to provide copies of unaltered, original invoices that represented their actual livestock transactions.

The P&S Act is a fair trade practice and payment protection law that promotes fair and competitive marketing environments for the livestock, meat, and poultry industries.
