GIPSA Alleges Nazem Saad, dba AlBadr Slaughter House Violated The Packers and Stockyards Act

WASHINGTON, March 27, 2008 - The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Grain Inspection, Packers and Stockyards Administration (GIPSA) has found evidence that Nazem Saad (Saad) doing business as AlBadr Slaughter House, Detroit, Michigan:

  • operated as a packer without maintaining adequate bond coverage as required by the Packers and Stockyards (P&S) Act; and
  • failed to pay sellers for the sale of their livestock within the time period required by the P&S Act.

On January 24, 2008, GIPSA filed a complaint against Saad. If the allegations are admitted, or proven in an oral hearing, Saad may be ordered to cease and desist from violating the P&S Act and assessed a civil penalty.

At the time of the alleged violations, Saad was operating as a packer buying livestock in commerce for slaughter and manufacturing/preparing meats or meat food products for sale/shipment in commerce.

The P&S Act is a fair trade practice and payment protection law that promotes fair and competitive marketing environments for the livestock, meat, and poultry industries.
