Daily HealthBeat Tip

Take 10

From the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Im Ira Dreyfuss with HHS HealthBeat.

Have 10 minutes to spare? Maybe 10 in the morning, 10 in the afternoon and 10 before dinner?

Thats all you need to get a good start on heart health. Just thirty minutes of physical activity a day. The National Institutes of Health points out that inactive people are nearly twice as likely to develop heart disease as those who are more active.

Being active for 10 minutes at a time may feel strange but its a start. The NIHs National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute has a new easy-to-read publication Your Guide to Physical Activity and Your Heart to help adults develop a safe and effective activity program.

Karen Donato is program coordinator:

"Walking around the building, going for a walk around the neighborhood, going up and down the stairs, youll feel the benefits of physical activity." (eight seconds)
