Rescue reservists save people and pets from Ike floodwaters
RANDOLPH AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Air Force reservists assigned to the 920th Rescue Wing rescued people and pets from the flood waters of Hurricane Ike in a small Texas town Sept. 13.

The reservists deployed from their home station of Patrick AFB, Fla. with two HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopters and two HC-130P/N refueling aircraft. In response to calls for help they flew over the town of Nederland, south of Beaumont, and saw it was mostly under water.

MCCHORD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. -- Ten reservists from the 446th Airlift Wing deployed Sept. 4 to Christchurch, New Zealand in support of Operation Deep Freeze, 2008-2009 Springfly. 

Springfly s the ODF ramp up phase to prepare buildings and equipment, as well as pave the overland traverse to the South Pole, in preparation for the arrival of the main body of military and civilian personnel during the main season in October.

Total force crews complete first-ever Antarctica night vision goggle mission

MCCHORD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. -- Team McChord Airmen from the 62nd and 446th Airlift Wings completed the first-ever night vision goggle mission Sept. 11. 

Airmen from the McChord regular and reserve wings are deployed to Joint Task Force Support Forces Antarctica where they took off from Christchurch, New Zealand, and landed at McMurdo Station. 

Hurricane Hunters fly nonstop into Ike

KEESLER AIR FORCE BASE, Miss. -- As residents of the Texas coastline flee to safe havens, the Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunters fly right into the center of Mother Nature's fury.

Hurricane Ike is projected to make landfall Sept. 13 along the Texas coast near the city of Galveston as well as provide tropical storm force winds along the Louisiana and Mississippi coastlines.

PATRICK AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- Air Force reservists from the 920th Rescue Wing here are going to Gulfport, Miss., to preposition search and rescue aircraft to aid victims of Hurricane Ike.

Airmen in two HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopters and two HC-130P/N Hercules long-range refueling aircraft will fly to Gulfport Biloxi International Airport.

Reservists deploy overseas to provide medical care

PATRICK AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- Air Force reservists from the 920th Aeromedical Staging Squadron here deployed to Iraq, Afghanistan and Germany in early September to support the global war on terror.

Once there, they will provide medical care to servicemembers in various stages of transit - from the battlefield to European military hospitals all the way to stateside medical facilities.

KEESLER AIR FORCE BASE, Miss. -- Barreling toward the Texas Coast, Hurricane Ike is regaining strength as officials along the Texas coast began evacuations of the first of millions of residents in the forecast path of the storm. 

Warm Gulf waters contributed to renewed strength for Hurricane Ike after it passed over Cuba during the night. Hurricane Hunters were in the storm pinpointing the center and sending flight-level and surface-level readings back to the National Hurricane Center via satellite.

ELMENDORF AIR FORCE BASE, Alaska -- Airmen here took time out Sept. 5 to celebrate achieving initial operational capability in three units.

Elmendorf's 3rd Wing, Alaska Air National Guard's 176th Wing and Air Force Reserve Command's 477th Fighter Group were all declared combat ready in their respective airframes.
