This Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) image from April 16, 2002, shows sea ice retreating from the Barents Sea (right). On the eastern side of Novaya Zemlya (North Land), Russia, the Kara Sea looks more winter-like than spring-like.
