Fires in Central Russian Upland

This pair of MODIS images from April 11, and 12, 2002, shows grassland fires burning in the Central Russian Uplands. As winter snows retreat, the area is prone to fire from lightning as well as fires set by locals for agricultural pruposes, such as land clearing, and fodder renewal.
