TSI

August 7, 1996

Attn: Quality Assurance Manager

          Calibration Laboratory Manager

Dear Valued Customer,

We have recently discovered a problem that can potentially affect the

performance of some instruments under certain environmental conditions.

Printed circuit board assemblies manufactured by one of our vendors have

been found to be contaminated with a microscopic coating of residue. At

times the residue can act as a conductor. causing current leakages that

can affect the performance of the instrument. The effect of the current

leakages can vary from extraneous segments appearing on the display to

drifting zero levels or errors in readings. The problems Primarily occur

when the printed circuit board is exposed to elevated temperature and

humidity levels.

To resolve any problems caused by the contamination, TSI is recalling

instruments that are potentially affected. Instruments returned to TSI

will be disassembled, printed board assemblies will be cleaned, and the

instruments reassembled and recalibrated. Units will be returned with a

new calibration and calibration certificate. As found data will not be

taken unless specifically requested.

We have determined that the following instruments potentially have this

problem:

     VELOCICALC Models 8355, 8357, 8360, 8382, 8383, and 8388 with serial

numbers beginning with the digits 604 through 606 or 9604 through

     9606

VELOCICHECK Models 8330, 8340 with serial numbers beginning with the

     digits 9601 through 9606

ACCUBALANCE Model 8370 with serial numbers beginning with the digits

     601 through 606

DP-CALC Models 8702, 8704 with serial numbers beginning with the

     digits 9604 through 9606

To arrange for returning the instrument to TSI, please call 800-777-8356

or (001) 612-490-2711 or fax 612-490-2874 and TSI personnel will provide

a Returned Material Authorization (RMA) number and instructions on where

and how to ship the instrument.

We apologize for any inconvenience this potential problem may cause. If

you have any questions, please call TSI at 800-777-8356.

Sincerely,

Richard R. Remiarz, Business Unit Manager
