Community College Tour

We heard from people in the park- now were moving on to the local Colleges. That's right, we are gearing up for a fall series of Listening Sessions at the Colleges in the area.

Flathead Community College October 8th, 4-7 PM (AT 139)

University of Montana, Missoula October 20th, 4-7 PM (UC 330)

Listening sessions are intended to be informal, yet informational meetings. It is a great way to become engaged in Glacier National Park's Centennial Program and to offer suggestions for centennial events, programs, and projects. Feel free to come and go as you can.

Check the 'whats new' and the 'calendar of events' for other sessions near you, soon!

Glacier Times

Glacier's Timeline has been posted on the Official Centennial website! The timeline is a mere glimpse of Glacier National Park over the years, through a cultural lens. If you have history that you would like to add, please share it with us- and we will do our best to incorporate it.

This timeline was created with the use and help of Glacier National Park's Archives Office, the Glacier National Park Digital Photo File, Glacier Park, Inc's Digital Photos, and C.W. Guthrie's new book, Glacier National Park: The First 100 Years, Farcountry Press.

Brain Storm for Glacier’s 100th!

As rain fell outside, the West Glacier Listening Session stormed up a flurry of ideas. From connecting kids and nature to bringing back old naturalist programs, from symphonies to bringing out museum archives, from film festivals to centennial gardens—the ideas were non-stop! Check back often to see all of the comments made during our Listening Session series.

If you missed this session, you can catch us at Many Glacier Hotel (8/21) 11am-2pm, St. Mary Visitor Center (8/21) 4-7pm, Glacier Park Lodge (8/22) 4-7pm, Polebridge Fire Cache (8/26) 4-7pm. We will also be hosting a series this fall in the outlying communities. These sessions are open to all- and you can come and go as you please throughout the three hour time slot!

If you can’t make it to one of the sessions, share your ideas online.

First Night Sperry; 5 Feet of Snow

The night before Sperry Chalet opens for the summer season, the Belton Chalet, Inc kicks off their season with a fundraiser, 'First Night Sperry'. This year, 'First Night Sperry' benefited the Centennial Program!

As we approached the Chalet, the last .5 mile was covered with snow- and not only 100% covered, but there was at least 5 feet of snow drifted in the sub-alpine forest. We followed the red tape to the stone chalet, only to find a 5 step snow staircase that led us down into the check in at the dining hall. The clouds were hovering; the thunder roaring- and we were admiring Lake McDonald valley from the dining hall windows.

The evening festivities included an intimate family-style dinner of Teri and Cora's salad, split pea soup, chicken with cranberry sauce, green beans, and potatoes; followed by Albert's chocolate cake. The 25 of us remained in the dining hall for coffee hour accompanied by games of Phase 10 and Trivial Pursuit. Stories were shared- and Kass gave a short presentation on behalf of the Centennial Program. Thanks for the support and a memorable evening!
