Dr. Randall Stewart is Program Director for Channels, Synapses, and Circuits at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS). His program focuses on basic research on voltage-dependent and ligand-gated channels, as well as on membrane pumps and transporters. His program strives to understand the function of normal and abnormal channels in the brain. Dr. Stewart received his bachelors and masters degrees in biology from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX, and received his Ph.D. in neurobiology from Columbia University in New York City. Dr. Stewart received postdoctoral training at the Biozentrum, Universität Basel in Switzerland in the laboratory of Professor John G. Nicholls and at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique in the laboratory of Dr. Anne Feltz in Strasbourg, France. Before joining the NINDS as a Program Director, Dr. Stewart was a Research Fellow in the intramural program at the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism.
