Disposal Fees Waived for Flood-damaged Debris
December 13 through December 16
On December 6, King County Executive Ron Sims proposed waiving disposal fees for residents with flood-related debris, December 13 through16 at all King County transfer facilities. On December 10, the King County Council approved the motion authorizing temporary free disposal of flood-related debris.
The Solid Waste Division will accept flood-damaged debris caused by the December storm event from King County residents at all transfer facilities Thursday, December 13 through Sunday, December 16 during regular station operating hours.
Program Criteria
- This program is for King County residents with flood-damaged debris from the December storm event only.
- Residents with mixed loads of flood-related debris and regular garbage will be charged at the regular garbage disposal rate.
- Residents of Seattle and Milton are not eligible for this program – check with your city for information.
- Residents need to provide proof of King County residence – such as a current utility bill or other piece of mail with their current address.
- Commercial loads will continue to be charged regular disposal fees.
- Customers with items that can be recycled – such as electronics, metals, wood, or yard waste should contact recyclers. Please see the "What Do I Do With…?" site for detailed information.
- Loads will be subject to inspection and Solid Waste Division staff reserve the right to limit quantities disposed without charge.
- All loads must be properly secured; unsecured loads will be subject to unsecured load fees.
Flood-Damaged Items Accepted for Disposal Include:
- Carpeting and padding
- Furniture
- Household furnishings
- Spoiled food
- Appliances*
- Drywall, plasterboard and insulation
* Major Appliances (Washers, dryers, hot water heaters, stoves, refrigerators, freezers, and dishwashers) are not accepted at all King County Sites; they are only accepted at Bow Lake, Enumclaw and Vashon. Standard King County Solid Waste Acceptance Policies Apply – Including these Restrictions:
- All items must be under 8 feet in length and less than 200 pounds
- Major appliances are accepted at Bow Lake, Enumclaw and Vashon only.
- We do not accept: electronic equipment such as computers, laptops, computer monitors, TVs, cell phones and mercury-containing items such as florescent light tubes.
- Cedar Falls Drop Box has a maximum load size limit of 3 cubic yards or one ton
