Overview

The Florida Sea Grant College Program, NOAA’s National Sea Grant College Program, and three NOAA offices in south Florida, i.e., the Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory (NOAA/AOML), the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary (NOAA/FKNMS) and the Southeast Fisheries Science Center (NOAA/SEFSC) have teamed up to create a unique outreach and education project dealing with south Florida's marine ecosystems. The project focuses on links among south Florida’s natural systems, which include Florida Bay, the waters and coral reefs of the Florida Keys and Tortugas, and the Everglades. In particular, the project will raise awareness of potential coastal changes arising from south Florida ecosystem restoration and the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP).

Project Goals:

1. To foster two-way communication between south Floridians and researchers in the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
2. To provide outreach and education about water quality and other issues affecting South Florida’s coastal systems.
3. To empower citizens to participate in science-based decisions that affect their local marine ecosystems.
