News from King County Department of Transportation Heavy rain causing hazardous travel conditions throughout King County Mother Nature is delivering a one-two punch throughout the region this morning, causing hazardous travel conditions from Snoqualmie to Seattle. Moderate
flooding on the Snoqualmie and Tolt rivers combined with localized
flooding has closed seven county roads so far: Southeast Reinig Road and
Southeast Millpond Road near Snoqualmie;
Southeast 24th Street and
Southeast Fish Hatchery Road near
Fall City; West Snoqualmie River Rd
Southeast (aka Walker Rd) and
Tolt Hill Road near Carnation; and
Miller River Road near Skykomish. Local urban flooding is also causing travel problems. King County Road Services Division crews are responding to numerous reports of local flooding caused by heavy rain and clogged storm drains. Wind and falling leaves are compounding the problem. With more rain yet to come, residents can help reduce neighborhood flooding by periodically clearing storm drains near their property. The National Weather Service is forecasting several more hours of heavy rain, which will likely make driving even more treacherous as we head toward the afternoon commute. As a result, motorists are advised to closely monitor weather reports and road closures throughout the day. Motorists should also use extreme caution when driving and anticipate deep standing water in many locations. Motorists who spot problems on roads maintained by King County are encouraged to report them by calling 206-296-8100 or 1-800-KC ROADS. King County will also issue road alerts and regional alerts via the Regional Public Information Network. Residents can also monitor near real-time flood data online for rivers in King County.
