The Department of the Interior's Minerals Management Service presents its 1998 Corporate Leadership Award to Tim Finnigan for his leadership capabilities. This award recognizes his commitment and contributions which enhanced MMS's ability to meet its mission objectives. Mr. Finnigan was an integral part of the effort by Chevron to identify needed research in support of deep water development. He co-authored a white paper which identified modeling deep water blowouts and underwater surveillance techniques for subsurface blowout plumes as necessary research areas. After discussing these ideas with MMS, Chevron took a leadership role in involving 12 other member companies of the Offshore Operator's Committee in the design and joint funding of this research with the MMS. Chevron serves as the co-chair of the ad hoc deep Spills Task Force with the MMS. The Task Force acts as a steering committee to direct and review the research. Over the last year, Mr. Finnigan put a tremendous amount of effort and personal time into this model of industry and government partnering. It is appropriate that MMS acknowledge Mr. Finnigan for both his past and continuing efforts as we cooperatively develop solutions to the tough technical challenges that confront us as we move into deeper and deeper water. These efforts reflect the unselfish and professional effort by Mr. Finnigan in promoting safety and corporate responsibility consistent with the intent and spirit of the Corporate Leadership Award.
