Citation: Charles Duhon

The Department of the Interior's Minerals Management Service presents its 1998 Corporate Leadership Award to Charles Duhon for his leadership capabilities.  This award recognizes his commitment and contributions which enhanced MMS's ability to meet its mission objectives.

Mr. Duhon has been at the vanguard in the industry in moving to adopt SEMP/RP 75 as a working safety management system approach.   Mr. Duhon worked extensively over the past two years developing a working relationship with MMS to conduct a cooperative review of the Kerr-McGee SEMP program.   His leadership within the industry and his company enabled the MMS to conduct the first SEMP cooperative review with an operating company.

Mr. Duhon's foresight and proactive approach to moving beyond compliance to systems safety management serves not only Kerr-McGee, but the MMS and the offshore oil and gas industry.  Mr. Duhon lead the way to a more collaborative approach to regulation in the offshore oil and gas industry, which is one of the first steps in moving to a performance-based regulation.

These efforts reflect the unselfish and professional effort by Mr. Duhon in promoting safety and corporate responsibility consistent with the intent and spirit of the Corporate Leadership Award.
