Official inspection customers expect the best practically achievable consistency among official inspection results (as well as high accuracy). In general, a system comprised of instruments that use different measurement technologies does not give the same consistency of results that can be achieved by a system of instruments that use exactly the same technology. To achieve the highest level of consistency and accuracy that our customers require, GIPSA selects and approves single "types" of secondary instruments for many official inspection needs. GIPSA approves multiple instrument models or methods for official inspection needs that are served best by having several different approved types.
GIPSA also ensures inspection equipment is properly
calibrated, and
maintained and repaired.
GIPSA facilitates the marketing of grain by helping to standardize commercial (unofficial) inspection equipment and methods. These efforts include active participation in the
National Type Evaluation Program and
validating rapid test kits.
