What is an escheat estate?
An escheat estate is property remitted to DSL when a person listed in a will or an heir to the estate cannot be located or refused to accept the estate at the time of the estate's probate.

How do I report unclaimed estate property?
When an estate heir cannot be found or refuses to accept estate property, a court may direct an attorney or personal representative of an estate to pay or deliver the property to the Estates Program of DSL. For more information, see ORS 116.193 and 116.203.

How can I claim escheat property?
A person may initiate a claim to recover escheated property by filing a petition within 10 years after the death of the decedent or eight years after the entry of a decree or order of escheat. See administrative rule OAR 141-030-0010.
