Boatner Joins ORISE as General Counsel
OAK RIDGE, Tenn.—Ivan A. Boatner recently joined the Office of General Counsel for Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) and will serve as counsel for the Oak Ridge Institute of Science and Education (ORISE), a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) facility managed by ORAU.
Boatner comes to ORISE from the Oak Ridge Operations Office of DOE, where he most recently served as the acting assistant chief counsel for litigation and claims. Prior to joining DOE, Boatner was an associate at Joyce, Meredith, Flitcroft and Normand in Oak Ridge.
“We are extremely pleased to have an attorney of Ivan’s stature joining ORAU,” said ORAU Vice President and General Counsel Jim Foutch. “His experience with DOE will serve him, ORAU and DOE well in his new role as ORISE counsel.”
Boatner is an Oak Ridge High School graduate who received a bachelor’s degree from the University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn. He completed his doctor of jurisprudence, graduating cum laude, at Tulane University Law School in New Orleans.
ORAU is a university consortium leveraging the scientific strength of 91 major research institutions to advance science and education by partnering with national laboratories, government agencies, and private industry. ORAU manages ORISE for DOE.
ORISE is a DOE institute focusing on scientific initiatives to research health risks from occupational hazards, assess environmental cleanup, respond to radiation medical emergencies, support national security and emergency preparedness, and educate the next generation of scientists.
