Project Highlight: Kentucky Statewide Emergency Communication Training
Client: Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services
ORISE and the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Service’s Department for Public Health collaborated on the Kentucky Strategic National Stockpile Emergency Communication Guide.
As a follow-on activity, ORISE trained public information professionals in health and education departments and organizations statewide on how to use the guide and on the “principles and processes of dealing with high stress situations.”
The training agenda was tailored for each region of the state and the expected audience.
Each session specifically covered:
- A basic introduction to risk communication and the Kentucky Strategic National Stockpile Emergency Communication Guide
- Effective risk communication skills, techniques, and principles
- How to deal with the media in high concern/high stress situations
- Why and how to design an appropriate message map or talking points
- Role playing and group exercises
