Amidon Joins ORISE as Group Manager of Center for Human Reliability Studies
OAK RIDGE, TENN. –Thomas "Tom" Amidon has been named group manager for the Center for Human Reliability Studies (CHRS) at the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE). CHRS, a program at ORISE, utilizes subject matter experts to support the U.S. Department of Energy in its efforts to ensure a reliable workforce and a safe and secure environment.
In his new position, Amidon will be responsible for the multi-program functions of CHRS, including developing and organizing long-term plans for CHRS projects, ensuring cost-effective operations and researching issues related to human reliability, national security and counterintelligence.
"We are pleased to have Tom join the ORISE team," said Andy Page, ORISE director of National Security and Emergency Management. "With more than 22 years experience in security, military intelligence and training, Tom will be instrumental in continuing to ensure that ORISE and its clients have reliable workforces and safe and secure work environments."
Amidon most recently served as a special investigator at USIS, where he conducted interviews, record searches, and completed background checks for national security investigations. Previously, he served as the Training Officer and Recruiting Operations Officer for Army ROTC at Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, Tenn. Amidon also has an extensive military background in Special Forces and intelligence.
Amidon received his bachelor’s degree in international relations from Campbell University in Buies Creek, N.C., and completed the 52-week Defense Language Institute course in Mandarin Chinese.
The Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) is a U.S. Department of Energy institute focusing on scientific initiatives to research health risks from occupational hazards, assess environmental cleanup, respond to radiation medical emergencies, support national security and emergency preparedness, and educate the next generation of scientists.
