Response Equipment Inspections

OSROs have stockpiles located at strategic sites along the Alaska coast. The Alaska Region inspects these stockpiles of industry's oil-spill response containment and clean-up equipment cited in the required OSCP. Operators are required to ensure that the response equipment listed in their response plan is inspected at least monthly and maintained to ensure optimal performance. They are further required to ensure that records of the inspections and maintenance activities are kept for at least 2 years and are available to the Alaska Region. The Alaska Region Oil Spill Program Administrator travels to locations throughout the Alaska Region to inspect oil spill equipment owned and operated by the contracted OSROs cited in the OSCP. These inspections allow Alaska Region to verify that the equipment is located at the designated staging point, is properly maintained and in good working condition, and that records of deployment or use in training exercises documented.
