Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation into a Sunday evening fatal crash involving an 85-year old Grants Pass man who died after he was struck by several vehicles while trying to walk across Highway 199 just south of Grants Pass. This unlit section of highway is a construction zone.
According to OSP Sergeant Mark Byrd, on September 14, 2008 at 8:40 p.m. troopers and local emergency personnel responded to Highway 199 at milepost 3 following reports of a vehicle striking a pedestrian. Preliminary investigation indicates FRANK KUBERSKI, age 85, from Grants Pass, was struck in the northbound lanes of Highway 199 by several vehicles and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Four identified involved vehicles were a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am driver by DIANA TURNER, age 44, from Grants Pass; a 1988 Jeep Wrangler driven by DEBRA BLACKMON, age 46, from Grants Pass; a 2008 Toyota Prius drivev by ERIC HU JR., age 28, from Concord, California; and, a 2008 Honda Civic driven by PATRICIA Hollenbeak, age 63, from Tustin, California,
None of the operators or their accompanying passengers were injured.
OSP troopers from the Grants Pass office are continuing their investigation into the cause of the crash. Anyone with information about this investigation is asked to call OSP at (541) 955-6370.
ODOT, Grants Pass Department of Public Safety, Rural Metro Fire Department, and the Josephine County Sheriff's Office assisted at the scene.
